Punkin' Pickin'

Last week, one of my 1st graders was constantly talking about how excited he was to do some "punkin' pickin."  I guess I couldn't get that out of my head, because I had a major itch to pick some pumpkins as well!  With a bit of sunshine and warmth in the air, we hopped onto our (super amazing) new Genuine Buddy, and found a great little place in our area.

One little pumpkin, too many nachos, and some alpaca-petting later, we rode home with the wind in our faces.  A perfect Sunday...

Time in the Country

Tonight my week-long break comes to an end.  It's never easy to return to setting the alarm clock, but I have to admit to feeling well-rested and ready to take on a new work week.

I wore this outfit on Friday when we spent the morning enjoying my parents' horses, playing with the dogs, and eventually making the 6 hour drive back to suburban life.  Simple outfit for a day of simple pleasures... the time out there never lasts long enough.

This is Deuce, my sister's pup who thinks horse grain is tasty.

My Boy and Me

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  My day has been filled with running errands, and so wearing something comfy felt perfectly appropriate.  I was going to break out the summer sandals, but decided to bring my big Brown with me for the day, and this boy certainly doesn't want to walk around town with his momma in wedges.

Focus on the Important Stuff

So is it strange for a bride-to-be to have pretty regular nightmares about her big day?  I've definitely had a handful of them since our August engagement, and it's the worst.  Basically, every single one is about the same thing--being unprepared.  In last night's version, my dad refused to get dressed in his suit in time for the wedding and I had to dance with him while he was in a t-shirt and jeans.  Past wedding-related nightmares have included missing flowers, forgotten gown, bad hair, etc.

I'm going to have to give myself some serious Zen time before bed each night so that I can focus on what this wedding is really about.  You know, love, commitment.. the big stuff.

But seriously, Dad, put the suit on.

Since it's March

I figured that since it's the first day of March and hitting over the 50 degree mark, it was safe to ditch the tights.  I pulled out my favorite ballerina skirt, and kept the rest really basic.

This skirt is without a doubt, one of my favorite items of clothing.  I always look at it and think about all of the options I have, but when it comes to actually wearing the thing, I keep playing it a little safe.  How would you wear this skirt?  Perhaps with a printed oxford?  Tucked or belted?  Layered?  With a t-shirt or blazer?  I need some ideas, people!

Chunky Sweater

Big chunky sweaters aren't always the most flattering thing to put on your body, but there are plenty of other reasons to love them.  This one has a strange short sleeve going on, so it feels a little poncho-like. I had to go with my new favorite t underneath of this thing... along with my favorite black pajamas dress pants.

Super Soft

This weekend is coming to an abrupt end, and I'm disappointed at the thought of ending my love affair with this super soft outfit.

Please, Monday, I. just. can't.

Bright Red on a Gray Day

I'm so happy I picked out my brightest red pieces to wear today, because it was miserable outside.  I just think that mixing red and hot pink is so cheery.

I'm going to have to figure out how to mix these two colors a little more often so that I can be fully prepared for Valentine's Day next month.  Otherwise, I'm going to have to pull a real crazy-teacher-lady move and wear some ugly dancing hearts sweater/matching earrings/matching pin/matching socks combo.  And I'm just too young to have to resort to that.

Feminine and Masculine

My no-brainer work attire typically involves a blazer and my most comfortable brown oxfords.  Unfortunately these favorite items are pretty masculine and I'm finally starting to realize that a balance is definitely necessary.

I couldn't imagine dealing with high heels today, so I opted for this bold necklace that I found on a Macy's sale rack.  I love love love bold jewelry!  Garish?  Maybe a little... but I still love it.  :)

Bumblebee

On Friday, perhaps I went a little overboard on "bright and cheery."  The sun finally returned, after days of rain, and I was in high spirits.  With a mustard t-shirt and striped pencil skirt, a co-worker mentioned that I was dressed like a bumblebee.  I've decided to take that as a compliment!

Toughen Up

My favorite skirt in the whole world felt like it needed it needed to be toughened up today.. so I thought these black wedges might do the trick.  I'm not necessarily pulling out my old combat boots (ooooh, college...), but I think these shoes are a little sassier than my others.

On another note, how do you guys feel about mixing bright white and cream?  I tried it for the first time here, and I'm sort of sold on the combo.

So Sentimental

I was a little lazy today, so I copied yesterday's outfit with stripes and florals.  I added some comfy sandals for grocery shopping (yes, my life is that exciting) and my favorite belt, a piece from my grandfather's closet.  My grandfather was a very special, hard working man-- a coal miner in Pennsylvania for over 50 years.  You can see how heavily worn out the belt looks... and I know it's been through a lot.

I know I've said this before, and I'm sure I'll say it a thousand more times, but it feels great to wear something so sentimental.
