Bright Whites

I'm spending the week on the North Carolina shore in the Outer Banks, relaxing with family.  Packing for this trip was surprisingly easy (mostly bathing suits and lounge-wear), however, I did stick a few great basics in my suitcase.  These white jeans from Loft and a white button-down from Gap are great for multiple outfits, but I love wearing a bold necklace with a monochromatic look.. so I stuck them together.

This bag is one of my favorite gifts of all time.  This past spring, my hubby came home on a regular Tuesday evening with a bag from J.Crew.  He wanted to surprise me with something, and picked this bag out on his own.  What a sweet gesture!  And even though I probably wouldn't have picked it out for myself, it's now become my favorite summer accessory... perfect with every outfit!

Taking Summer Staples into Fall

I still haven't managed to pull out my fall/winter clothes from storage, so I've been transitioning my summer staples into my September wardrobe.  The truth is, I always love to hang on to the sandal-wearing days as long as possible because once you put on a pair of boots, you know it'll be months and months until your toes see the sunshine again.

Back to Work

Finally getting back on track!  Today marks the 1 month anniversary of our wedding, and I figure that it's finally time to jump back onto the blogging wagon.  Over the past month, we said our vows in front of all of our loved ones, took our very first vacation as a couple, I had the honor of being a bridesmaid in a dear friend's wedding, and then I dove right in to a new (and busy) school year.  It feels like we've been going non-stop, but it's finally time that we return to a normal routine.  I'm ready to hibernate in our house for a while and just enjoy married life.

Soon I'll have some wedding and honeymoon photos to share, I promise!  Oh, and maybe a few fun pics of our cute new scooter!

Once a Week, Probably

I've only photographed this this dress once before, but I've worn it many times this summer.  It's a perfect all-season find that I can't wait to carry into the fall and winter.  Basically, I'll probably wear this dress at least once a week for the rest of my life.  Would that be weird?

T-Shirt Simplicity

I have to admit that as our weather has turned warmer over the past few weeks, I have seen far too many women forget about the sheerness of their clothing.  I'm talking about major see-through issues... to the point where I'm embarrassed for them.  So when I pulled out this oldie-but-goodie t-shirt dress, rest assured I remembered to add a slip!

Wearing a slip is such an easy fix for sheer dresses and skirts.  Now, if I could only find the perfect non-sheer white pants...

So Here I Am

I have pictures to post, and not a thing to say.  I'm just brain-dead.  I thought about discussing my distaste for linen and its constant wrinkles, but then I realized that I didn't have much to say other than that I shouldn't buy linen anymore.

And then I thought that perhaps I should discuss my recent recommendation for tenure.. but I'm not sure how I feel about tenure in general and don't feel up for any serious discussions about my job.

So here I am.  Wrinkled in linen.  Exhausted from a long week, avoiding the gym, and seriously considering some take-out for dinner.  Weekend, come quick.

A Few Magic Words

On our way home from vacation this weekend, Erik said a few magic (one-of-the-many-reasons-why-I-love-you-so-much) words:  "Do you want to stop and visit any of those outlet stores?"

Although exhausted and not particularly in the mood to shop, I couldn't pass up the opportunity.  And luckily, these sandals and dress were quick finds and great staples for my summer wardrobe.  I've already managed to wear this outfit to an engagement party and work today--and I'm sure I'll wear it another few times before we even get to June...

Just How it Goes

I wore this a few weekends ago, but somehow never managed to share it.  It's from a Saturday, and it's pretty sloppy.

Some days, unkempt is just how it goes.
No point in fighting it...

Still Hanging On

I know that so many of you out there are excited about fall fashion and you're already beautifully incorporating some cold-weather items into your wardrobe, but today I felt like enjoying summer just a bit longer.  Fall is my favorite season of the entire year, but I did a terrible job at showing it today.

I'm not sure what I'll be in the mood to wear tomorrow morning, but today, I was still hanging on...

Sweaters and Sandals

I know I know, this outfit makes no sense.  A sweater on top and sandals on the bottom?  That's just how I make it through a cold day at the end of summer.  Trust me, I'll do everything in my power to wear these sandals for as long as possible.

Remember this guy from here?  I just love this $5 necklace so much!

Just to be a Rebel

Ahh!  Save me!  We've been engaged for 9 days and we have already visited 4 venues, met with a wedding coordinator, contacted a band and a caterer, and bought a wedding band for E.  I wouldn't say that I always have such a Type A personality, so I need to get back to relaxation mode-- fast.

In other news, summer is over.  What?!  Ughhh.  I'm going to have to wear white shoes tomorrow, just to be a rebel.

Searching High & Low

Yesterday E and I visited 4 different potential wedding venues, and spent almost the entire day on the road, talking, stressing, and thinking about our wedding day.  What an exhausting and overwhelming decision!  I really can't wait to get past this stage in our planning so that we can move on to the fun stuff...

On another note, my apologies for the terrible photo quality!  I loved this outfit, but all of the photos were too dark and basically ruined.  I managed to lighten them up a little but caused a lot of graininess in the process.  Sorry!

First Day Jitters

I didn't actually have first-day jitters, but I saw so many adorable students who did!  Today our school was filled with lots of proud parents, new book-bags, and shy students.... as they all returned to school for a new year.

...And here I am at 7am after too little sleep.  I am so mad that I forgot to take this picture with my red purse.  How could I possibly put together a blue and white outfit and forget my red bag?!

I didn't have enough coffee, that's why.

My Favorite New Accessory

After being with Erik for over 5 years, we are so excited to finally start planning our wedding!  Although I won't be turning Rock'n'Roll Betty into any kind of wedding blog, I'm sure I'll be so excited to share some of our planning throughout this upcoming year.... trust me, the wheels have started turning. :)

Now, in terms of daily outfits, I'm thrilled to have a lovely new accessory to wear each day.... and soon I'll share a few more photos and background on it.  Thank you, everyone, for the warm wishes yesterday!
